Description

At Apple, extraordinary ideas have a way of quickly becoming extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences. Sound is an essential and compelling facet of the customer experience. Apple has assembled an elite Acoustics team that enables our customers to experience music with delight, communicate with clarity, and enjoy elegant sound throughout our product line. Apple Acoustics is looking for an Acoustic Engineer to help us build audio into the next generation of Augmented Reality (AR) solutions for Apple’s Vision Products Group (VPG). Could this be you?

DESCRIPTION

As a member of our organization, you will directly impact future products that will delight, inspire, and empower millions of people. An Acoustic Engineer supporting VPG programs owns and drives the acoustic design and implementation for future Apple products. You’ll bring innovative audio concepts to life, guiding them from conceptualization through to mass production. This involves deep collaboration with Product Design, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Design teams. Through simulation, prototyping, and validation, you will optimize acoustic performance and work closely with the multi-functional team to deliver high-fidelity and truly immersive spatial audio experiences. Limited international travel to support engineering activities is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years in an acoustics engineering role, preferably within the audio consumer electronics industry
  • BS/MS or equivalent, preferably specializing in acoustics
  • Strong communication and technical presentation skills in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passion for audio and acoustics and a fundamental knowledge of acoustic theory.
  • Experience in an acoustics engineering role: prototyping, producing, and shipping high-volume consumer electronics
  • Proven success in the design, manufacturing, and failure analysis of audio systems
  • Familiarity with wearable audio products (including VR headsets, headphones, hearing aids, and smart watches), near-ear speaker designs, and spatial audio (playback and capture)
  • Experience with integration of speakers and microphones, including designing for water, dust, and chemical resistance
  • Practical knowledge of electrodynamic transducer design and MEMS
  • Proficiency in acoustic simulation tools (lumped element modeling, multiphysics FEA), acoustic measurement tools (Audio Precision, Soundcheck, Klippel, etc.), audio signal processing (MATLAB, Python, Max MSP, etc.), and solid modeling (Nx, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Ability to produce data and experience demos to identify and advocate preferred designs and decisions with multi-functional teams
  • An eagerness to take on new challenges, learn new skills, and continually develop by staying open-minded & curious. Strong sense of personal ownership, with the ability to comprehensively handle tasks from start to finish independently.
