Job Description Job Description Be a part of the growing international engineering team that seeks to deliver experiences to every place where audio matters! The Bose Audio Technology Licensing group is seeking a passionate, hands-on Acoustical Systems Engineer, based in Shenzhen, China, to take part in supporting our dynamic needs as we develop partnerships across many industries – all with the goal of finding new opportunities to widely deploy Bose technologies. You will be a key member of our cross-functional team, working closely with your Bose colleagues and external partners, both local and abroad, to successfully develop and deliver our technologies to end-consumers. Responsibilities: Primary management will be from the US-based Audio Technology Acoustics team, with local management also involved in day-to-day activities Collaborate with engineering team members to design, measure, tune, and test audio devices, across a wide range of form factors and product categories, covering wearables and out-loud devices Investigate and develop acoustical system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements Investigate and develop digital signal processing solutions to achieve product performance requirements Use simulation tools to design and predict acoustical system behavior Define and characterize physical prototypes of acoustical systems Conduct acoustical measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies, and perform thorough analysis of results Work directly with DSP engineers and external partners to develop and tune system performance and signal processing algorithms Clearly communicate results through peer reviews and external customer-facing engagements Collaborate with external engineering partners to develop and validate physical acoustical designs and signal processing capabilities to meet product performance requirements Collaborate with Audio Technology Business Development and Product Management teams to support early technical engagements with new partners Travel (domestic and international) may be required, up to 8-10 weeks per year Minimum Qualifications: BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering 5+ years of direct acoustic design experience of high-performance audio products 3+ years of hands-on acoustic test / measurement experience Fluency in spoken and written American English Critical listening skills (system voicing, audio mixing, music production, musical instrument experience, etc) Knowledge of MATLAB for acoustical measurements as well as algorithm simulation / development. Simulink and SimScape knowledge a plus Knowledge of headphone and wearable acoustical structures, speaker enclosure and port design, and noise cancellation technology a plus Basic understanding of transducer design, lumped parameter models, micro drivers, ECM, and MEMS microphones Experience specifying requirements for acoustical components, including: loudspeakers, micro-speakers, microphones, acoustic meshes Knowledge of voice communications techniques and microphone systems, including: beamforming, speech processing, acoustic echo cancellation, voice activity detection Strong understanding of acoustical test / measurement systems and techniques Experience using and selecting acoustical test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen Inc. Responsibilities
The Acoustical Engineer will collaborate with engineering team members to design, measure, tune, and test audio devices. They will also investigate and develop acoustical system design concepts and digital signal processing solutions to meet product performance requirements.
