Job Summary The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for supporting all aspects of the credentialing process for Medical and Allied Health Staff, including initial appointment, reappointment, privilege delineation, and status tracking. This position ensures compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and Medical Staff Bylaws and collaborates closely with the Medical Staff Director, hospital departments, and Medical Staff committees to ensure timely and accurate credentialing. The Credentialing Specialist also supports clerical and operational functions of the Medical Staff Office. Essential Functions Manage initial and reappointment credentialing processes for all Medical and Allied Health Staff. Evaluate credentialing policies and procedures for compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards. Collect, verify, and document provider information using confidential sources. Maintain accurate and current provider information in the credentialing database. Prepare credentialing files for review by the service chair, Credentials Committee, MEC, CEO, and Board. Track license, certification, and privileging expirations to ensure timely renewals. Coordinate and maintain the Medical-Dental Staff roster. Assist with onboarding and orientation scheduling for new Medical Staff. Guide privilege delineation and form development processes. Track FPPE and OPPE documentation and committee follow-up. Notify departments of newly granted privileges in a timely manner. Support Medical Staff committee meetings by preparing agendas, packets, and minutes. Coordinate virtual meetings and manage secure presentation of confidential materials. Maintain documentation related to credentialing, privileging, and compliance. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Proficient in credentialing systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Medical Staff Bylaws and regulatory requirements. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism. Strong judgment and interpersonal skills in dealing with physicians, staff, and the public. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment. Must be able to sit for extended periods. Regular lifting of up to 25–40 pounds (e.g., files, paper boxes) Requires bending, standing, and walking as part of routine office work. Office setting with pleasant working conditions. Frequent contact with physicians, hospital staff, and external agencies. Education High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Licenses/Certifications Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) preferred. Experience Credentialing experience preferred. Typing speed of 60 WPM with high accuracy required. Strong organizational, multitasking, and written/verbal communication skills required.
