Description

Under supervision of the Acquisitions Librarian, manages and supervises the Acquisitions and Licensing Unit of the UC Davis Library, responsible for ordering, receiving and invoice preparation for material in physical and electronic formats, including, but not limited to monographs, serials, media, maps and government information. Activities include workflow oversight and direction of unit staff, managing transactions related to the expenditure of the Library collections budget, complex problem solving and project management, ensuring positive vendor relations, and maintaining the quality and accuracy of subscription, bibliographic and holdings records. Responsible for the acquisition of electronic resources licensed by UC Davis and local management of consortial titles acquired by the California Digital Library.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - FOR FULL CONSIDERATION, APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO UPLOAD LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION IF REQUIRED OF THE POSITION

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in a library acquisitions setting, or adjacent areas such as collection development or electronic resources management with some purchasing/procurement experience.
  • Knowledge of monographs and serials practices, including key issues related to electronic journals, web resources and licensing, in a complex library environment sufficient to assess workflows and procedures.
  • Effective organizational leadership skills sufficient to supervise and manage a complex, specialized unit; ability to deal fairly and knowledgeably with respect to HR issues; and ability to interpret staff personnel policies and union contracts.
  • Organizational and planning skills and ability to determine priorities, delegate work, and establish goals. Skills to interpret and apply policy and develop procedures. Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to foster a motivating and engaged environment. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal colleagues at various organizational levels as well as external contacts.
  • Writing, editing, and document management skills sufficient to update procedural manuals, prepare instructive communication, and clearly and concisely prepare performance evaluations, position descriptions, or employee development worksheets.
  • Ability to work with material in non-English languages sufficient to recognize their essential bibliographic elements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of library tools and resources sufficient to do bibliographic searching, verification and problem resolution, including: an integrated library system (such as Ex Libris’s Alma), and a major bibliographic utility (such as OCLC).
  • Previous supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, and skills sufficient to develop, initiate, and manage defined projects.
  • Skills working with enterprise financial systems sufficient to query transactions, interpret query results, and resolve problems.
