Job Details Job Location: New York, NY 10019 Education Level: Associates Degree Salary Range: $25.47 - $25.47 Hourly Job Shift: 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM The Activities Coordinator must make certain to include a wide range of stimulating activities for the residents. Activities planned should include music, art, crafts, and drama and exercise programs. Many residents will also benefit from taking classes such as continuing education seminars. The Activities Coordinator should arrange for these types of activities. If feasible this could include finding these activities in the community or working with the Volunteer Coordinator to find volunteers with the skills needed to offer the class. Inform the residents of these available options. The Activities Coordinator needs to be able to speak with the variety of residents that we serve and work with finding activities to meet their needs. The Activities Coordinator should encourage and motivate the residents to participate. The Activities Coordinator should have good problem solving skills. He/ She will need to be able to fix situations quickly, or adjust activities to meet the needs of the residents. This person will keep an attendance sheet for each activity and produce a monthly report with such stats. The flexibility to work on holidays, nights and weekends is a requirement for this position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Activities Coordinator (reporting to the Shelter Director) has responsibility for the following: Plans outings for residents (this could include trips to public events, museums, special events by invitation like dinners, concerts, shows, houses of worship and other special events, etc. The Coordinator should encourage residents to attend internal as well as external agency sponsored events. This includes advertising and recruiting for the events. Works to plan a robust activities calendar for the residents (this includes recreational as well as educational engagements (ex. Computer classes). Works with volunteers to create and plan recreational and other fun activities such as: yoga, aerobics, gym classes, make-overs etc. Escort clients to outside community events and activities. Ability to drive agency van as needed. Must have the ability to present to groups of individuals internal and external. Qualifications Educational Requirements: Minimum of a High School diploma, college degree preferred. Valid Driver License preferred Experience: Preferred experience Minimum of 3 years working in a similar job or with similar population. Experience working with the mentally ill and/or homeless population (preferred). Flexible and comfortable in nontraditional setting. Skill Sets: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
