Description JOB SUMMARY The primary responsibility of this position is to help lead and engage residents through planned activities. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The following job responsibilities will comply with the ADA and any/all applicable state and federal laws. Duties and responsibilities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice. Responsible for understanding and consistently following the principles of the Happy to Oblige (H to O) program. Lead group activities as directed, assist in planning. Visit with residents providing sensory stimulation and reality orientation. Report to activity coordinator on resident's responses and/or progress to specific approaches utilized. Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment. May be responsible for general housekeeping duties in activity areas. Assist in transporting residents. Attend in-service training and continuing education workshops. Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms which may signify a physical change in condition which could require nursing intervention. Constantly be on the alert for conditions interfering with the safety and well-being of residents involved in activity programs. Adhere to established policies and procedures of the facility and maintain confidentiality. Assist in prompt mail delivery to residents. Assist in planning facility/staff events. WORK ENVIRONMENT EQUIPMENT USED: Basic art supplies, paper, sewing supplies, stereo, books, and copy machine. Occasionally works in heat, cold, and noise. Rarely deals with dust, dirt, odors, chemicals, wetness or humidity. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred. At least one-year of experience in a nursing facility, a long-term care setting or a recreational/arts/crafts program. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Enjoy working with older people, have a caring attitude and sincere interest in others; alert to attitudes and feelings of residents. Demonstrated ability to participate in and conduct activities with others, showing engagement and enthusiasm. Computer literacy is a must. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Occasionally squats, reaches above shoulder, crouches and kneels. Frequently bends/stoops, balances, and pushes/pulls. Occasionally lifts and carries up to 24 pounds. Walks or stands approximately 3 to 4 hours of the 8 hour work day.
