QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Graduate or Equivalency. Experience with elderly, physically challenged and residents with Dementia preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for documentation of resident participation in group activities and one-on-one visits. Leads select group activities for residents in a variety of recreational pursuits. Facilitates activity needs of residents. Ensure that residents on each unit have the opportunity to participate in activity programs of choice through on-going contact and escort as needed.

• Document all activities timely and appropriately in Pro-Activity attendance.
• Reviews individual resident attendance and participation records with the therapist. Meets with Recreation Therapist for input and guidance regularly.
• Leads group activities for residents in a variety of recreational pursuits. i.e. parties, sing-a-longs, bingo, exercises, cooking, crafts, church activities, food related socials and Sensory Programs.
• Adequately determines and accommodates resident needs, abilities and interests regarding leisure involvement.
• Invites and escorts residents to appropriate unit programs.
• Regularly provides and documents meaningful 1:1 in- room resident visits if indicated.
• Posts a written monthly activities schedule on assigned wing, near the nurses’ station and in Resident rooms.
• Implements, in coordination with Program Director and Administrator, policies and procedures as they relate to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.
• Preparation for specialized Recreation programs.
• Completes holiday facility decorations (balloons, streamers, birthday signs for resident rooms, etc.)
• Assists volunteers in recreational program as needed
• Maintains and cleans department supplies and materials as assigned.
• Any other task requested by Program Director.
