What is the Role? As part of Loggerhead’s Product and Risk team, the Actuarial Analyst is responsible for helping us answer questions and solve problems by extracting and analyzing data from our data warehouse and third-party data sources while supporting ratemaking, reserving and enterprise risk management functions. The Actuarial Analyst will be the subject matter expert in our data systems and be the primary colleague at Loggerhead responsible for supporting the information needs of each department and the management team. This role offers great visibility to all levels of the company and opportunities to grow with the company. A Day in the Life could include: Participate in all actuarial functions of the company under the supervision of the company’s Chief Actuary Clearly understand our business, products, and processes in detail to research the questions we are trying to answer through data analytics Investigate where the data is stored and how it’s organized within our complex data ecosystem Extract information using complex SQL queries Run analyses and synthesize findings into easy to understand and actionable recommendations Clearly communicate recommendations to colleagues across all levels of the company and external stakeholders Develop dashboards to share findings on an ongoing basis Build efficient processes and tools to conduct actuarial and quantitative analyses in a repeatable and automated manner Utilize available data sources to design and develop statistical models to analyze past data and to predict future behavior. Provide quantitative analysis of various alternatives to ensure new initiatives meet operational goals. Explore new data sources (including 3rd party vendor products) for inclusion in Company’s analyses Evaluate new products and pricing variables and develop recommendations for leadership Partner with the Product Team to file and implement new products or changes to existing products Assist actuary with technical support and analysis Perform ad-hoc work to support operational goals as needed Execute projects in support of pricing insurance business utilizing accepted actuarial standards, methodologies, and knowledge gained through on the job training What You'll Need to be a Top Candidate: Skills Disciplined work ethic to succeed in actuarial exams and to pursue ownership of actuarial responsibilities for Loggerhead Proficiency in either R or Python Solid knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and statistical diagnostics of models. Experience communicating with senior leadership Experience working with home insurance Exceptional mathematical and statistical knowledge and understanding Minimum 2 years relevant analytical work experience Knowledge & Experience Successful completion of at least one Casualty Actuarial society exams with intent to progress toward ACAS/FCAS designation Strong proficiency in Excel and in SQL Must have strong planning, organizational, analytical, decision making and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. Investigative mindset willing to roll up the sleeves and figure out how to resolve data / knowledge gaps Be able to work independently but also in close collaboration with the rest of the team, sharing information and ideas. Excellent critical thinking, decision making and problem solving Strong business acumen to understand business context and questions to solve Education & Certifications Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field or equivalent, or demonstrable relevant work experience in performing listed responsibilities *This job is remote, with occasional travel to Tampa, FL headquarters* Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.
