Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

As an Reserving Actuary at Aspen in London, you will play a central role in supporting the delivery of the actuarial reserving team’s objectives. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve conducting detailed statistical analyses for reinsurance portfolios, presenting your findings to key stakeholders including underwriters and senior management, and ensuring that all quarterly deliverables are met with precision. You will be instrumental in enhancing business intelligence capabilities by working closely with Claims and Underwriting teams to interpret performance data and produce insightful reports. In addition to managing core reserving processes, you will have the opportunity to lead process improvement initiatives-identifying areas for methodological enhancement or technological advancement-and contribute actively to company-wide projects such as the Reserving Modernisation Project.

  • Support quarterly reserving exercises by developing a deep understanding of relevant data sources and systems, leading analyses for assigned lines of business, and ensuring timely delivery of all required outputs.
  • Present findings clearly to underwriters and other stakeholders, addressing queries on reserving results and providing actionable insights that inform decision-making.
  • Peer review work produced by junior team members, offering constructive feedback and guidance to ensure accuracy and quality across all deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Claims and Underwriting teams to analyse performance drivers and emerging trends, producing high-quality business intelligence reports that support strategic objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance reporting tools and analytics platforms to enable efficient delivery of performance metrics across the organisation.
  • Drive process improvements by identifying opportunities for enhancement or efficiency within actuarial methodologies, documentation practices, or technology deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and actuarial governance standards by maintaining robust control frameworks and adhering to best practice guidelines.
  • Actively participate in wider initiatives prioritised by Senior Actuarial Management-including cross-training activities and global projects-to support Aspen’s broader business needs.
  • Mentor junior team members by providing support with time management, study planning, work prioritisation, and career development conversations as appropriate.
  • Engage in ongoing personal development activities to stay abreast of market best practices and bring new knowledge into the team.

To excel as an Reserving Actuary at Aspen in London, you will bring substantial experience from corporate or consulting roles within general insurance or reinsurance sectors.

  • Strong technical proficiency in data manipulation using Excel and other analytical tools; ability to conceptualise solutions for complex problems using technology.
  • Proven track record of producing detailed reports at various organisational levels with clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams-including Underwriting, Claims, Finance-and build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members through feedback provision, study planning assistance or work prioritisation guidance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial services industry best practice in actuarial analysis, modelling techniques, compliance issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Qualified Actuary status (preferably Fellow) accredited by Institute of Actuaries or equivalent body; strong academic background in analytical disciplines is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail under tight deadlines within defined procedures recommended by functional teams.
