Description

THE MISSION

Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nano-satellites with thermal infrared cameras as payload for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings and many other applications, as well as its own microsatellite platform for in-house and customer missions. After our first three Missions FOREST-1-3, as well as our first full orbital plane of eight satellites OTC-P1 (Launch End of March 2025), we currently work towards the second orbital plane, which includes four satellites built and operated completely in-house under the Hellenic Fire-Satellite Program from the European Space Agency.
We are seeking an experienced ADCS engineer having demonstrated experience building and integrating ADCS systems onboard cubesats. You’ll own the ADCS subsystem onboard our satellites. Your work starts at helping the design phase, helping the structure team in making the design a reality , testing the implementation and finally verifying it in orbit. You’ll work closely with our structural engineers, our test engineers and finally help the mission control team plan and execute ADCS maneuvers in orbit.

RELEVANT SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of ADCS of sensors( Magnetometers, Star Trackers, IMU’s) and actuators ( reaction wheels, magnetorquers) used for Attitude Determination and Control on satellites.
  • Good understanding of Control systems and algorithms used for attitude determination and spacecraft control.
  • Good understanding of Orbital mechanics, commonly used coordinate reference frames
  • System level overview of the different subsystems on a generic satellite.
  • Hands on experience integrating ADCS systems on satellite missions.
  • Programming Skills : Proficiency in C/C++ in an embedded context. Python scripting for implementing tests. Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
Responsibilities
  • ADCS system architecture and design : You will own the ADCS subsystem on all of OroraTech’s current and future satellites. This includes evaluating the design requirements, selecting appropriate sensors and actuators and finally integrating them on satellite platforms. You will be evaluating solutions proposed by our suppliers on their suitability to achieve the mission’s requirements.

  • Hardware Integration: Collaborate closely with other teams to seamlessly integrate ADCS components like sun sensors, star trackers , reaction wheels etc. onto our platforms.

  • Testing and Validation : Organize and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) tests using ground based simulations. Validate and test in-orbit commissioning and operations plans. Help the design and production teams troubleshoot issues during integration and testing phases of the mission.

  • Support On Orbit Operations : Post launch, you will support the mission control team with on-orbit operations. This includes supporting them during the LEOP phase , analyzing telemetry to help debug on-orbit ADCS issues and evaluating or-orbit ADCS performance.
