Position #: V39869 Expected Start Date: February 22, 2026 Union: HSAS Facility: Regina General Hospital City/Town: Regina Department: Mental Health and Addiction Services Combined Nursing Unit - Youth Detox Type: Full-time temporary Expected Up to Date: February 20, 2027 FTE: 1 Shift Information: Days, Nights, Evenings, Weekends, Stats Hours of Work: 11.78 hour shifts Relief: No Float: No Field Hours: No Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Addictions Counsellor - Diploma $29.584 to $36.176 Travel Required: No Job Description: As a member of the Youth Detox team and under the general direction of the Manager, the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues through the implementation of addiction recovery programs. Responsibilities include triaging clients, developing case plans & providing educational sessions. In addition staff will monitor and assess clients withdrawal and assist clients with their overall detoxification process. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement" Human Resources Exemption: No Education Diploma or Degree in Chemical Dependency studies or BSW and/or another Baccalaureate discipline (generally social sciences or human services) acceptable to the employer. These would include a Bachelors in Psychology, Sociology, Human Justice and Psychiatric Nursing. Knowledge and Abilities Ability to demonstrate knowledge in addiction(s) and their effects on the family unit. Ability to accurately triage addiction(s) and collectively develop a recovery and case plan. Knowledge of screening and addiction assessment tools and procedures. Knowledge of group dynamics. Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model, the Transtheoretical Model of Change and the Developmental Model of Recovery (SMRS). Knowledge of therapeutic tools such as Motivational Interviewing and CBT. Knowledge of best practices in addiction field and harm reduction strategies. Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field. Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledge of and ability to monitor and assess withdrawal symptoms related to substance use. Efficient computer skills.
