Description

Cardiff and Vale Colleges award-winning Inclusive Learning team are looking for Additional Support Assistants to support learners enrolled on level 1 – level 3 courses across the college. Learners that require support will have Additional Learning Needs (ALN), Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (LDD) and are taking the next step in their journey towards adulthood.
This role is for you if you are looking for a career that is both rewarding and dynamic, with opportunities to progress within the team and across the college. We asked what the team enjoy about the role of an Additional Support Assistant:
“I enjoy watching learners thrive in college and achieve their goals.”
“The role is rewarding and satisfying when I can see learners achieve and I feel without the additional support they may not have achieved it.”
“There are multiple campuses that you can go to, so you are not limited to one place. Staff are really friendly and get on well with each other. I like seeing how the learners progress throughout the year and you get to see how much you have impacted their learning in a positive way.”

Responsibilities
  • Providing person-centred support to individuals and groups of learners that fosters independence and resilience.
  • Contributing and participating in annual person-centred reviews for learners with statutory plans, such as Individual Development Plans (IDP).
  • Acting as a role model, champion, and advocate for learners with ALN or LDD.
  • Working with staff and other professionals to promote learner independence.
  • Support the provision of access arrangements and reasonable adjustments.
The successful candidate will have 5 GCSE’s grade A-C (including Maths and English) or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with people with additional learning needs, learning difficulties and/or disabilities and experience of working within education or a care setting. Further information can be found in the Job Description/Person Specification.
In return for your hard work and dedication to our learners we offer fantastic benefits including a generous pension scheme, term-time only working, cash health plan, employee assistance programme, access to our Cycle to Work, Headspace app and access to money saving benefits through our Reward Gateway scheme.
Welsh language skills would be desirable for this role.
Flexibility with days and hours is available and can be discussed at interview. Applications are to be made using the Cardiff and Vale College application form only. The college welcomes applications in Welsh. Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application in English. If we invite you to interview, let us know if you would like us to conduct the interview and assessment process in Welsh.
