Description

ABOUT US

Oakdale was established nearly twenty-five years ago and is highly regarded as a professional therapy provider. We are a not-for-profit community-based organisation and our team is united by a commitment to provide flexible, bespoke, evidence-based, and high-quality clinical services to meet the particular needs of each of our clients as well as the requirements of commissioners for an appropriate, collaborative, value-for-money service.
The Oakdale Group provides a wide range of specialist assessments, including for autism, ADHD, and developmental trauma. Oakdale also provides a wide range of psychological therapies for children, young people, and adults. Many of our services are commissioned by the NHS, Local Authorities, and schools, and include services for NHS staff. Others are accessed by members of the public who pay for them privately, through medical insurance, or through our charitable arm.

JOB DESCRIPTION

You will need to hold an independent and supplementary non-medical prescribing qualification (V300) and will have experience of working in a specialist ADHD service with service users with ADHD.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Oakdale is looking for a Nurse Practitioner / Non-Medical Prescriber specialising in ADHD in children & young people and adults within Oakdale’s neurodevelopmental pathway. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting medication reviews and making independent prescribing decisions for service users with ADHD, under the guidance of a Lead Nurse and Consultant Psychiatrist. You will play a crucial role in supporting the neurodevelopmental team, working with children & young people and adults. Your responsibilities will include initiating medication and providing continuous monitoring to ensure the best possible outcomes for service users.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including psychology and consultant psychiatry, to deliver specialist clinical assessment and intervention services for ADHD to children, young people, adults, and their families.
  • Facilitate discussions about ADHD treatment options effectively.
  • Prescribe controlled drugs and other medications appropriately, adhering to NICE guidelines, ensuring treatments are tailored to the individual needs of each service user.
  • Maintain expertise in the pharmacokinetic profiles of both short- and long-acting ADHD medications, adjusting treatments to minimise adverse effects and maximise efficacy.
  • Conduct initial assessments to review mental health, social circumstances, and physical health of service users.
  • Generate and manage prescriptions using approved formularies, with ongoing monitoring and review to ensure effectiveness, safety, and appropriateness of the prescribed interventions.
  • Coordinate and provide comprehensive medication management, including necessary physical health checks and monitoring.
  • Support the transition of ADHD medication prescribing and monitoring to primary care through knowledge of Shared Care Protocol arrangements.
  • Contribute to governance and audit processes, ensuring service delivery prioritises quality and upholds dignity, privacy, and respect for all service users.
  • Provide accurate and timely performance data on service activities as required.
  • Ensure compliance with local policies such as Yellow Card reporting, monitoring MHRA drug safety updates, and addressing adverse drug reactions through appropriate reporting and remedial actions.
  • Foster effective team collaboration within the multidisciplinary team, promoting and maintaining high professional standards.
  • Support the development of junior staff, including student nurses, through mentorship and guidance.
  • Oversee the supervision and appraisal of team members, ensuring professional growth and adherence to high standards.
