Description:
THE TEAM
Norton Rose Fulbright Canada is seeking a patent assistant for the Intellectual Property Group at its Montréal office.
Skills and Experience Required
- DEC or equivalent diploma in secretarial studies or other relevant field
- Knowledge of CIPO and USPTO rules and procedures
- Command of written and spoken English and French
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Detail-oriented
- Good interpersonal skills
- Available to work occasionally outside regular business hours, if required
- Positive attitude and client-service oriented
- Extensive knowledge of Word and Outloo
Responsibilities:
- Prepare documents required for filing of new applications with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and other foreign patent offices (assignments, power of attorneys, declarations)
- Prepare correspondence with clients and foreign associates
- Prepare correspondence with CIPO and the USPTO
- Review files for chain of titles and prepare chain of title documents for recordal at CIPO and the USPTO
- Process and file daily incoming correspondence
- Contact clients regarding follow-up actions in files
- Follow up on deadlines daily and ensure that they are met
- Record time entries and bill files regularly
