The College Supervisor’s Responsibilities   Description: The College Supervisor serves as the liaison between the department of education and the placement school during the student’s culminating practicum experiences in their Methods Practicum and Student Teaching Practicum. Typically, these practica are a “paired placement,” or a placement in the same school and with the same teacher from the Spring practicum (Methods) to the Fall practicum (Student Teaching). The tasks assigned to the supervisor in each placement are as follows:    During the Methods and Learning Differences Practicum, the college supervisor’s responsibilities include:    * Making an introductory visit to the school to introduce her/himself to the cooperating teacher * Checking on each student’s weekly progress in their Student Teaching Notebook (Google Folder) * Conducting one formal teaching observation of the student teacher * Communicating any significant issues affecting the practicum student’s progress to the Placement Coordinator * Thanking the cooperating teacher for her/his mentorship at the conclusion of the practicum and following-up on any action items prior to student teaching  * Occurs during the last 6 weeks of the semester (Mid-March to End of April or Mid-October till Mid-December)   During the Student Teaching Practicum, the college supervisor’s responsibilities include:    * Making an introductory visit to the school to introduce her/himself to the cooperating teacher, if needed (i.e. new placement from the Spring) * Conducting 5 in-person, formal observations of the student teacher, spread out over the entire practicum * Monitoring the experiences of the student teacher to ensure a well-rounded program of activities, by checking in weekly through emails, journal responses, texts, and/or phone calls.  * Collect and send records of the overall activities and progress of each teacher candidate (5 observation reports, final signed clock hours, letters of recommendation, mileage reports, etc.)  * Supporting and coaching school personnel and teacher candidates in all matters related to the student teaching program * Establish a positive rapport and support of the teacher candidate and cooperating teacher * Communicating any significant issues affecting the teacher candidate’s performance to the Placement Coordinator * In collaboration with the cooperating teacher, evaluate progress and assign a final grade for student teaching * At the end of the practicum, college supervisors should provide a letter of recommendation for the teacher candidate's file.  The letter needs to be printed and signed on Wheaton College letterhead (provided by the Department of Education near the end of the practicum).  * Conduct an “Exit Interview” of the teacher candidate at the completion of the practicum.  * Thanking the cooperating teacher for her/his mentorship at the conclusion of the practicum
