The School of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health (SHSSH) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to deliver tutorials in Visual Communication & Design, specifically for the subject Social Impact Design.
This subject examines the Social Impact of visual communication design. Students will be required to respond to design challenges “wicked problems” and invent visual communication design media, content, messages and products that address social, environmental, health or humanitarian themes for a public audience or community benefit. The subject is framed by a Human Centered Design methodology that embraces the principles of ethical, sustainable and empathetic practice of visual communication design.
This subject is part of the Visual Communication & Design Specialization within the Bachelor of Communication and Media degree.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will join for the Spring trimester in April 2025.
The candidate will demonstrate strong evidence of teaching and should have experience teaching in the area of Social Impact Design. Candidates should be fluent in media discourse and have proficiency with studio practice and in balancing the conceptual, theoretical, technical and practical demands of the discipline. Instructors are responsible for leading and teaching the tutorial/workshop sections of BCM courses.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in visual communication design or media and communication, or relevant discipline
  • University teaching experience at an internationally recognized institution specializing in public relations
  • Experience working in the Design Industry
  • Experience with Design software (Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • Fluency in English language (both spoken and written)
  • Should have a valid UAE Residency Visa with No Objection Certificate from the visa sponsor.
Responsibilities
  • Engage in teaching and working on teaching teams for courses relevant to the subject
  • Work with Subject coordinators on the development of subjects
  • Teach in a variety of settings, including classroom, studio/lab, and possibly others, depending on the requirements of the course
  • Assess student work and provide feedback to students about their work
