Description

Overview:
The mission of the City of Boston Assessing Department is to accurately collect data, assess property at its full and fair cash value, and provide prompt and courteous service to the public. The Assessing Department is a leader in municipal valuation and seeks to maintain that status by attracting talented experience to our core staffing.
Reporting to the Unit Manager or other assigned supervisor, performs clerical, information, data management and other office functions requiring a high degree of decision-making ability.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and performs work for a team of assessing staff relating to files, field records, assessment and other data, abatements, appointments, schedules, phone and mail inquiries and special projects.
  • Maintains the integrity of all data.
  • Prepares and provides information to other staff and the public.
  • Assists in valuation operations and research.
  • Cross-trains and provides coverage for the Information Desk via rotation and the Taxpayer Referral and Assistance Center as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three years of clerical, information, data and office management experience required; appropriate educational substitutions may be accepted for one year of this experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a personal computer environment, using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other application software such as Microsoft applications and Google Suite preferred.
  • Knowledge of assessing practices and real estate taxation preferred.
  • Proficiency in navigating a CAMA (Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal) System preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public in person, by telephone and in writing preferred.
  • Ability to plan and organize multiple tasks, to exercise judgement, to take initiative, and to meet deadlines preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills preferred.
