Description

The Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre (NFC) is a not-for-profit, culture and community-based organization mandated to serve the needs of urban Indigenous people in the City of Peterborough and surrounding area. The NFC is currently accepting applications for a full-time 7-month contract position as Administrative Assistant (AA).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered. 
  • High school diploma/GED. 
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a receptionist and/or administrative role. 
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization is considered an asset   
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history,  
  • Excellent communication skills including listening, oral, written, and telephone/email). 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.). 
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g. InDesign, Canva, etc.) and social media platforms. 
  • Ability to multi-task, manage deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Good judgement, professional, reliable, and responsible. 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and interpersonal skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle & be willing to travel when required;   
  • Must possess current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified;   
  • Indigenous heritage a preference; (ref: Aboriginal Employment Preference Policy); and,   
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.

Responsibilities

The AA will support management in fulfilling the day-to-day administrative responsibilities as well as support program staff with administrative requirements. The AA will provide a welcoming experience for visitors; coordinate meeting room and van bookings; support records management; some social media/ website responsibilities as requested/needed, provide support to the Executive Director; manage inventory of supplies; and more.
