General Position Summary: The Assistant Coordinator of Youth Ministry will work in collaboration with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry to assist with envisioning, organizing and overseeing youth ministry events including leading Catechesis, activities, and events as appropriate.   Principal Accountabilities: * Assist in the implementation of Catechesis and youth ministry classes and events. * Assist in the Discipleship of young people, deepening their knowledge and relationship with Christ and His Church. * Assist in mentoring YM participants in leadership and evangelization skills. * Create and maintain records including but not limited to registration, enrollment, attendance of YM students/participants.  * Input and maintain data for sacrament preparation programs.  * Point of contact for scheduling Sacrament Preparation Discernment Interviews.  * Answer emails and phone calls regarding general questions about the department and its plans and policies.  * Maintains current records on all youth participating in programs and all youth & adult volunteers (including Safe-Environment information). * Serves as a member of the Catechesis and Evangelization team and the parish staff. Attends staff meetings, prayer days and educational days. * Primary contact in youth ministry department with Spanish Speaking staff and families.    Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position: Minimal: Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. * Efficient and pastoral communication with students, parents, volunteers and parish at large * Assessment of organization and supplies required for successful instruction and event management  Supervision Given and/or Received:  Moderate supervision given and/or received * Assist in the Supervision of Youth Ministry Catechesis and Events * Receive strategic direction from the Coordinator of Youth Ministry and the Director of Faith Formation.   Internal Contacts: * The Diocese, Pastors, Priests, Principals, Members of the Evangelization Department, Business Managers, Parish Secretary, and employees.  External Contacts: * Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.  Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: * This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads. * Required to work some nights and weekends. * Ability to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time. * Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files.  Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files. * Ability to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties.   * Data entry via computer keyboard requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movements. * Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.  Travel Requirements: * Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.  Education and Experience Preferred: * High School Degree Required with some college education preferred. * Experience working in youth ministry  Knowledge and Skills Preferred: * Knowledge of Church teaching * Knowledge and Ability to lead Christocentric Catechesis and Evangelization * Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate * Demonstrated history of good judgement. * Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility. * Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel. * Ability to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn. * Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor or Business Manager in a timely manner.                * Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks. * Ability to work independently as well as in teams. * Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity. * Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality. * Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences. * Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills. * Bilingual (Spanish/English) required * Ability to keep a consistent weekly work schedule once determined * Desire to build a long-term relationship with youth ministry and the St. Francis of Assisi parish community   FLSA Designation:  Non-Exempt Part Time 29 hours a week; Onsite See schedule
