It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range: $31,200 - $49,340 Reporting to the Correctional Administrative Sergeant, this position will function in the centralized mail processing center of a male medium custody facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Sorting, inspecting, and distributing offender mail. - Processing and handling legal mail and incoming and outgoing mail and packages. - Fulfilling distribution needs for both the facility and offenders, ensuring all policy and procedures are applied for the safety and security of the general public and staff. - Lifting, pulling, and pushing in excess of 10 pounds to move large bins of mail and/or packages. - Responding to offender inquiries concerning mail. - Utilizing the Inmate Banking System to enter funds received for offenders. - Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. - Functioning independently and possessing good communication skills (both verbally and written). - Operating a computer to include Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Outlook, and Word. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
