The Department of Epidemiology and Cancer Control was established in October 2005. The vision was to establish St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as an internationally-recognized leader in childhood cancer prevention and control, through an integrated, multi-disciplinary program encompassing epidemiology, outcomes and intervention research focused on pediatric cancer and other serious diseases of childhood. In considering the scope of the research agenda for the Department of Epidemiology and Cancer Control, the primary strategy has been to build upon existing strengths in the area of childhood cancer survivorship.
As the Administrative Director of the St Jude Department of Epidemiology & Cancer Control, you will oversee departmental administrative activities. Reporting to the Department Chair, and working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders, this position will develop and systematically coordinate the administrative services for the department, with a focus on financial management of grants and departmental budgets, along with management of the administrative team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Experience: 7+ significant years experience in managing administrative operations, including management of direct reports, setting expectations, and development of processes and process improvement.
  • Significant experience in financial management, including post-award management of grants.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively understand and support the needs of a large academic department that includes faculty, staff and postdoctoral team members.
  • Experience with contract and vendor management.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the administrative team, including setting annual goals, setting and ensuring performance expectations are met, and ensuring the administrative and financial support needs of the department are met.
  • Oversee administrative contract management and vendor management, ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
  • Ensure effective, efficient, and documented processes for the administrative team.
  • Manage complex post-award grant and operational budgets of the department, tracking actuals & variances and rebalancing as needed.
  • Lead a team by driving people management processes in terms of goal setting, performance management, development, and engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
