Your Opportunity:
The position is a front-line administrative role, connecting with the public in the Calgary Zone and supporting front line Public Health Inspectors in their community work. Working under minimal direct supervision, the successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility and show initiative in a busy, high-pressure office by providing administrative support for program activities relating to the Environmental Public Health (EPH) Safe Water program. Some of the many varied responsibilities of this role include processing high volumes of private drinking water sample submissions and reported results for homeowners, public drinking water systems and recreational water facilities. Ordering and maintaining office supplies and equipment; frequent communication with internal staff, external agencies and members of the public; preparing agendas and taking minutes for provincial committee meetings; and troubleshooting/basic maintenance of specific office equipment. The successful candidate must have the ability to respect the confidential nature of healthcare information, handle confidential client information, and carry out duties with frequent interruptions and timeline constraints. Knowledge of basic public health risk assessment is a strong asset as urgent issues/complaints must be communicated to Public Health Inspectors in a very timely manner. The successful candidate will be required to provide occasional back-up support in other EPH program areas to help cover vacations and/or other staff shortages.
