Responsibilities
  • Assist Leadership: Become familiar with Department Head responsibilities and assume an active leadership role as their assistant.
  • Engage in Decision-Making: Actively participate in management problem-solving sessions.
  • Master Facility Operations: Learn the daily duties required within a nursing facility to ensure the highest quality of care.
  • Understand Team Contributions: Recognize the role each position plays in the overall success of the facility.
  • Conduct Daily Rounds: Use observational skills to identify concerns, report them to the appropriate department manager, and ensure solutions are implemented.
  • Chair Committees: Lead at least one committee meeting in each department to gain experience in collaboration and consensus-building.
  • Support Resident Care: Assist with admissions and discharges, and attend care plans during rotations in Nursing, Social Services, Dietary, and Activities departments.
  • Monitor Key Outcomes: Review 24-hour Reports and Weight Loss Reports, focusing on recommendations to maintain positive outcomes, including skin integrity.
  • Investigate Incidents: Manage one complaint or incident investigation (real or simulated) from start to completion.
  • Conduct Mock Surveys: Evaluate departments, report deficiencies, and propose plans for correction to Department Heads.
  • Develop Scheduling Skills: Create a staff scheduling log (real or mock) for one month.
  • Learn Financial Operations: Become familiar with accounting tasks, including accounts payables, receivables, setting up trust funds, and general ledger logging.
  • Document Progress: Maintain a daily log of hours for Department Head verification and signature.
  • Collaborate with the Preceptor: Meet weekly with your preceptor for supervision and to address areas of concern.
  • Complete a Final Report: Submit a comprehensive internship report and evaluate the preceptor
