Description Working at The Preservation Society of Newport County offers you the opportunity to work for an organization that preserves, protects and presents 13 historic properties and landscapes in Newport, Rhode Island. As part of the team, you have an opportunity to help preserve and maintain the cultural and historical treasure of Newport, Rhode Island. Occasional special events may require work outside of this period. The Admissions Associate serves as the first point of contact for guests at Newport Mansions, providing a welcoming, professional, and guest-focused experience. This role includes performing Guest Ambassador duties, assisting visitors with ticket and membership selections, completing transactions accurately and efficiently, and supporting the overall quality of the Visitor Experience. The ideal candidate communicates clearly and pleasantly, exercises sound judgment, and is adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning operational systems and mobile technology. Positions available for either seasonal summer working a minimum of 4 days per week mid-May through mid-August or part-time, working a minimum of 3 days per week with the exception of high season, which is 4 days per week, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Serve as the initial point of contact for guests, providing a professional, friendly, and welcoming experience. Perform Guest Ambassador duties throughout the shift in one-hour increments, which include standing outside, greeting guests, bus groups, directing them as needed, and answering questions. Assist guests in selecting tickets and memberships by providing clear information, thoughtful suggestions, and guidance on available options. Complete all ticket and membership transactions quickly, accurately, and in a friendly manner using the POS system. Assist guests in downloading and using the Newport Mansions app to enhance their visit. Maintain knowledge of Newport Mansions’ house museums, historic families, and current programs to provide accurate information to guests. Contribute to the overall quality of the Visitor Experience through proactive engagement, service recovery, and attention to guest needs. Develop proficiency and accuracy in all point-of-sale register operations. Assist with end-of-day and closing duties, including making real-time decisions in accordance with Newport Mansions’ policies and procedures. Requirements The desirable candidate will possess the following qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum one year of customer service experience required; cash handling and/or sales experience preferred. Ability to work independently with general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage guests, answer questions, provide clear guidance, and present a professional, welcoming demeanor. Ability to communicate in a pleasant, clear, and helpful manner, including modulating voice and directing guests efficiently in accordance with company standards. Demonstrate active listening skills and ability to convey information clearly and concisely, in person, over the two-way radio and by phone. Ability to handle transactions accurately, efficiently, and professionally while multitasking. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial and operational tasks. Ability to exercise good judgment, make real-time decisions in alignment with policies, anticipate guest needs, and adapt to changing conditions. Ability to learn quickly and achieve proficiency in assigned operational areas, including POS systems, ticketing procedures, and the Newport Mansions app. Familiarity with Android and iOS mobile devices; comfort learning new technology required. Knowledge of Newport Mansions and the Newport area preferred, or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
