Admissions - Patient Service Representative. Basic Purpose of the Job Under the direction of the Admissions Manager, the PSR is responsible for day to day monitoring of work flow in a specific area of patient registration and discharge. Acts as a resource to the staff for operational issues and to any other patient who needs assistance. Works with health insurance providers to determine coverage and benefit limits. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards. Pre-registers and Pre-admits patients. They are responsible for verifying insurances; ensuring pre-certification number is obtained for certain procedures, estimating charges and collecting co-pays and deductibles. Minimum Education High school diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
