Adobe InDesign Typesetting Specialist - Freelance, Remote Department: Support & Leadership Employment Type: Full Time Location: Global+ Reporting To: Client via Magic Compensation: $7.00 / hour Description About the Client Our client is an independent publisher of books and magazines is shifting from traditional retail to digital direct-to-consumer distribution. The small, collaborative team includes in-house design and editorial functions and values clean, consistent typography and efficient workflows. They’re focused on modernizing production while maintaining high standards of quality. Why does this role exist? This role exists to relieve a production bottleneck between editorial and design by owning the “glue” work of typesetting, template use, and copyedit/proof corrections. It enables faster, more reliable publishing by ensuring content is accurately imported, styled, and prepared for a senior designer’s refinement. The position also supports the company’s shift toward digital/direct-to-consumer by maintaining consistency across print and web touchpoints. The Impact you’ll make Typesetting and Layout (InDesign) Import editorial content into existing templates and apply/master styles Match fonts/typesetting conventions and maintain typographic consistency Prepare tidy, well-organized files for senior designer handoff Proofreading and Corrections Enter proofreading/copyediting corrections accurately and efficiently Check grammar/spelling, track changes, and verify corrections are implemented Coordinate with editors to resolve questions and follow style guides Website and Visual Updates (WordPress) Make basic visual/content updates to pages and posts Ensure on-site typography and styles align with brand guidelines Liaise with head of design for simple layout or asset swaps Collaboration and Workflow Communicate with the head of design and editors via Slack/Google Chat Manage file handoffs and version control in Google Drive Maintain predictable availability aligned to 10 AM–6 PM ET and follow established workflows Quality Assurance and Documentation Preflight and QA files before handoff/publication Maintain/update style references and template notes Log changes and keep orderly project documentation Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required: Demonstrated Adobe InDesign proficiency focused on typesetting/layout (portfolio or samples required) Excellent written English for proofreading and entering copyedit corrections Comfortable using templates, master pages, and styles; strong typographic attention to detail Remote collaboration experience with Google Workspace (Docs/Sheets/Drive) and Slack/Google Chat Ability to work full-time, Monday–Friday, 10 AM–6 PM Eastern (40 hours/week) WFH Set-Up: Computer with at least 8GB RAM, an Intel i5 core processor/AMD Ryzen 5 Processor and up.
