THE ROLE  An Adoptions Counsellor plays a vital role in fostering meaningful connections between people and pets by facilitating the adoption of cats, dogs, and small animals, ensuring each match leads to a happy and healthy bond. This position also includes educating adopters, maintaining accurate records, and delivering exceptional customer service, all while adhering to the organization’s commitment to humane animal treatment.   KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES CUSTOMER SERVICE * Deliver excellent customer service, educating adopters on animal care needs and addressing inquiries. * Greet clients, assisting with walk-in inquiries. * Respond promptly to adoption-related phone calls and emails.  ADOPTIONS * Capture photos and videos for animal adoption profiles. * Conduct meet-and-greet sessions with potential adopters and their pets. * Perform animal interviews for various species. * Process adoptions, donations, lottery ticket sales, and other transactions as needed. ADMINISTRATIVE * Maintain accurate adoption records in Shelter Buddy and Adopets. * Review and evaluate adoption applications. * Communicate information effectively with partnering departments using established protocols. * Monitor and report behavioral changes in animals. * Support additional duties as assigned. EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or equivalent required. * First Aid certificate is an asset. * Minimum of six (6) months of experience in a reception and/or customer service role. * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and internet-based applications. HOURS OF WORK * Standard hours: 40 hours per week; however, this position is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill departmental responsibilities. * Flexibility may be required for evenings, weekends or special events. Responsibilities
