The Adult Education - Literacy and Essential Skills Instructor will be responsible to deliver an outcomes-based adult skills upgrading program in a small classroom environment on and off-site to achieve program objectives in accordance with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD). The Instructor will follow (OALCF) Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The Adult Education Instructor will have:
· Adult Literacy Certificate, Adult Education Certificate, or Equivalent an asset;
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, critical thinking and analytical skills;
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment;
· Be sensitive to the needs of adult learners;
· Ability to differentiate instruction based on learner need;
· Proven ability to develop and facilitate training /workshops;
· Ability to use computer technology as a creative means to teach adults;
· Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including advanced Excel features;
· Knowledge of literacy, numeracy, and basic skills; and Essential Skills training
· Knowledge of Essential Skills/Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework OALCF;
· Knowledge of MLITSD–LBS Service Provider Guideline and Performance Management Framework;
· Awareness of local economic climate and community needs;

Ø Provide learners with five LBS (Literacy Basic Skills) services: Information and Referral, Assessment, Learner Plan Development, Training and Follow up;
Ø Help learners set realistic goals and develop a learner plan to achieve them;
Ø Provide initial task based assessment to determine eligibility and starting point for upgrade, followed by assessment results and assisting client with necessary registration process of referral;
Ø Provide high quality, learner-centered service that helps adults develop and apply the literacy and essential skills to achieve goals related to Employment, Apprenticeship, Secondary credit, Post Secondary Education and Independence;
Ø Prepare and deliver competency-based, goal directed, contextualized programming that clarifies the connections between literacy development and the real-life task learners perform in work, learning and community contexts;
Ø Deliver Outcomes-based instruction using resources and computer software appropriate to the adult learner and his/her individual goals, skill levels and learning style;
Ø Integrate technology into the classroom through use of iPads, SMARTBoard, PC, etc..; customized instruction based on leaner need (in person and online);
Ø Monitor learner progress through Learner Plan through administration of common assessment such as Milestone Tasks and Culminating Tasks; update Learner Plan when appropriate;
Ø Monitor progress of shared/blended learners through ongoing communication with e-Channel literacy practitioners;
Ø Participate in the case management of the learner by coordinating upgrading, learner supports, and other services (locally);
Ø Develop and facilitate goal-specific training delivered as workshops;
Ø Support learner transition to next step training providers by linking them to educational training opportunities ;
Ø Maintain learner files and monthly data reports, enter required data and updates into the Employment Ontario Information System – Case Management (EOIS-CaMS) prior to each month end;
Ø Complete statistical information and reporting as required by Executive Director;
Ø Monitor LBS statistics to achieve program objectives;
Ø Complete Learner Satisfaction Surveys on each learner exiting and enter results into CaMS;
Ø Assist in marketing and promoting program, deliver information sessions, respond to general questions and concerns about literacy upgrading;
Ø Be a team player
Ø Participate in staff meetings;
Ø Attend all professional development activities as directed by Executive Director;
Ø Collaborate on special projects to develop/facilitate cross program initiatives to better support clients/learners/students;
Ø Maintain awareness of regional, provincial LBS initiatives;
Ø Maintain resource and advise Executive Director of resources required to meet learner and program needs;
Ø Other duties as assigned.
