Description Job Description – Adult Literacy Program Counselor The Center for Family Life is seeking a full-time Counselor for our Adult Literacy Program. Working with a low-income population facing complex challenges, the role of the Counselor will include providing case management, service coordination and follow-up services to students enrolled in English as a Second Language classes. The Counselor will engage students enrolled in English as Second Language classes in a comprehensive intake process to identify students’ needs and the appropriate services and resources to address them. Counselor will connect students to services, including making phone calls, translating and advocating on students’ behalf, assisting with gathering documentation needed to apply for benefits and services and facilitating benefits applications as appropriate. The counselor will also follow up on all referrals to ensure that students receive the services and will track outcome information. The counselor will remain in contact with each student throughout each class cycle and will document the progress of each case in written progress notes, and will perform data entry in the appropriate channels, maintaining all information up to date. Counselor will assist with outreach, pre and post testing students, group intake and orientation sessions and will collaborate with the Adult Literacy Team including the teachers and will perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: A successful candidate will have: An AA Degree in Human Services or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. At least three years of related experience working with English learners in a similar setting is strongly preferred. Best Plus 3.0 certification highly desired. Must be bilingual in English/Spanish with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong knowledge of public benefits and services. Logistics: This is a full-time position at 35 hours per week; evening hours will be required Salary: $43,000 to $45,000 with a comprehensive benefits package
