JOB SUMMARY
The person in this position creates and oversees the implementation of all adult programs in both the Westlake and Rocky Mount Branches and is a key library ambassador to the community. Community engagement strategy will focus on forming and nurturing collaborative partnerships to benefit the community. Library partnerships are opportunities to provide leadership in collaborative efforts, especially in initiatives focused on lifelong learning.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
- Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in related field;
- Courses in computer technology preferred;
- No prior experience required;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid State of Virginia Driver’s License.

- Knowledge of the procedures, practices, and policies of a public library.
- Confident user of digital hardware and software tools, including personal productivity software (word processing, spreadsheet, email, calendaring, presentation); and web-based communication tools.
- Knowledge of pertinent social media platforms.
- Knowledge of County operations, policies, and plans.
- Skill in data management, and professional writing.
- Skill in customer service and public relations.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
- Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of projects of differing scale and scope simultaneously.
- Ability to develop varied media and correspondence that is easy to understand, professional, and viewed as customer friendly by patrons.
- Ability to learn standard library tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines.
- Ability to perform routine clerical and recordkeeping tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, customer-service oriented, working relationships with library patrons and employees.
- Ability to learn computer and other technologically advanced skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, simultaneously and with minimal direction.
- Ability to travel around the community to build relationships with various groups and businesses for program collaboration.
- Ability to adapt to change; willingness to teach and learn new ways of doing things, including new technologies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.
