Description
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Full training in all blood science (Sample Reception, Haematology, Chemistry and blood Transfusion) on day shifts will be provided before BMS starts nights shift.
Multidisciplinary experience desired but not essential as full training will be provided
Recent laboratory experience in at least one blood science discipline is essential
Responsibilities
To work as a team member within the multi-disciplinary night shift team to enable the efficient running of the night service.
Ensure all analysers and equipment are working correctly.
Ensure internal and external quality schemes are performed.
Processing samples in a timely manner to ensure turnaround times are met.
Interpretation, technical validation and authorisation of results.
Phoning of critically abnormal results in a timely manner.
Management of incomplete lists and ensure there are not outstanding samples/tests.
Monitor and enter results from referral laboratories.
Provide Advance BMS support and supervise MLA’s when required.
Liaise and assist specimen Reception and all sections within the blood sciences laboratory.
To be familiar with the Laboratory IT systems and its appropriate utilisation in the discharge of your duties.
To undertake such work as you are assigned in a careful and efficient way and in compliance with UKAS and MHRA guidelines.
To communicate in a friendly, helpful and non-prejudicial manner in your dealings with colleagues, other HCA staff, clients and/or customers.
Provide advice to users when needed regarding sample types or test codes.
Stock control and rotation.
Efficient hand over to day shift.
Escalating issues encountered during the shift where required.
Ensure that all enquiries that cannot be dealt with directly are passed on to an appropriate senior member of the Pathology department.
Maintain professional development records in compliance with IBMS and HCPC requirements.
