Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Engineering degree (Mechanical or Electrical with automotive focus preferred)
  • Demonstrated 5+ years of work experience in the area of internal combustion engine development including component or subsystem design and/or analysis.
  • Solid understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of engine mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Energetic and Innovative
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Proficiency in core MS Office software applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word,)
  • Must be able to create and present information to colleagues, leadership, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Fundamental understanding of Spark Ignited engine combustion and controls and their key influences on emissions, efficiency, performance, and drive quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of advanced gasoline engines and related technologies including valvetrains, fuel systems, boost systems, cylinder heads, blocks, rotating and reciprocating components, and thermal management.
  • Demonstrated experience in engine test data analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical guidance to a cross-functional team including engine design and development, analysis, purchasing, suppliers, and engine controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to meet budget, timing, and technical deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD/CAE tools.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The Advanced Gas Engine Technology and Components group is responsible for the design and development of advanced gasoline engines and related technologies that are approximately 5-7 years away from production implementation. The focus of the group is to identify and develop innovative technologies that meet future fuel economy and emissions regulations while exceeding customer expectations for the target market segment at a competitive cost. You will perform engineering activities on the assessment and development of advanced Spark Ignition engine system technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for specifying and balancing requirements, execution and evaluation of designs, analysis, development, testing and validation of engineering projects where a substantial amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. The broad scope of responsibilities may include any engine component or system. The role may include providing technical work direction to other engineers and/or support personnel. Actively engages in team issue resolution and supplier leveraging. Will work cohesively with a group of engineers, designers, and other support personnel responsible for executing smaller portions of larger projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Initiate and / or support the development of advanced technology solutions aligned with business unit strategic intent.
  • Engage with suppliers and development partners to assess and develop advanced engine technologies.
  • Design, release, procure, build, and evaluate advanced gas engine components and subsystems that meet program performance and timing requirements.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with existing Bill-of-Design, Bill-of-Material and Bill-of-Process (BOD/BOM/BOP), as applicable.
  • Develop Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents in support of new BOD/BOM/BOP for technologies not comprehended in current BOD/BOM/BOP.
  • Lead, document, and communicate problem resolution and corrective actions,
  • Lead overall communication, coordination, and consultation with purchasing, engineering departments, suppliers, development partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Balance requirements across systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to analysis, design, engine development, and engine controls engineers in a collaborative team environment.
  • Plan and execute complex test plans designed to assess technologies against requirements and project deliverables.
  • Analyze and communicate test results to colleagues and management
  • Travel as required to support the business
