P. Machibroda Engineering Ltd. (PMEL) has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Advanced Geotechnical Materials Testing Technician or Engineer to join our team. Based in Saskatoon, PMEL is a leading consulting firm specializing in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and Advanced Geotechnical Materials Testing services across Western Canada. This role offers hands-on experience in specialized geotechnical materials testing with mentorship and guidance from our senior team.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or progress degree) is considered an asset.
  • Geotechnical Testing and Instrumentation coursework is an asset.
  • Prior lab experience and instrumentation testing are beneficial.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities
  • Materials Testing & Analysis:
  • Perform soil index parameter testing (e.g., Atterberg limits, hydrometers, sieves, moisture contents, visual classifications, sulphate, and resistivity tests).
  • Conduct advanced geotechnical materials testing for engineering properties (e.g., various triaxial tests, unconfined, direct shear, consolidation, and permeability tests).
  • Log rock core to determine strength and other engineering properties.
  • Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with internal company standards, industry standards and recognized standards (e.g., ASTM/CCIL/CSA).
  • Lab Operations & Data Management:
  • Manage lab data workflows including soil sample preparation, test setup and data collection.
  • Process and interpret lab results, including data reduction, plotting and documentation.
  • Compile detailed technical reports.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Calibration:
  • Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors or technical support for specialized calibration of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintain calibration records and maintenance logs.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
  • Effectively communicate laboratory findings and observations to project engineers through both verbal communication and written documentation.
