Description Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) The ARNP will work to promote health equity and ensure that activities/services are aligned with the SPFC’s vision, mission, programs, and values to promote health and access for all. Provide office based medical care to adult patients of the St. Pete Free Clinic. Assesses/triages patients, whether in-person or by phone, as needed, to determine disposition. Performs routine patient workups, including diagnoses, treatment, and patient care plans. Assists other clinic staff and volunteer providers as needed. SPFC requires that all newly hired employees be vaccinated against COVID-19. If a potential candidate has a medical or religious exemption to receiving a vaccine, your work conditions may require adjustment. Supervisory Responsibilities · None Position Responsibilities · Work in partnership with Health Center employees and volunteers to ensure smooth functioning of the Clinic. Provide medical direction for questions regarding patient scheduling, triaging and/or treatments. Demonstrates flexibility in response to changes in volunteer physician schedule and help ensure patient needs are adequately addressed. · Conduct patient assessments, diagnose and develop a plan of care for each patient seen; prescribe medications as needed. Embrace a trauma-informed approach to care. · See walk-in and/or newly discharged patients from local emergency rooms or hospital inpatient units as needed. · Provide follow-up for patients returning to clinic for review of diagnostic tests or for prescription refills. · Review reports on outside diagnostic testing and physician consults; advise RN and Intake Specialist of follow-up needed. · Perform procedures commensurate with training and experience – e.g., suture/staple removal, minor wound care. · Provides accurate data in electronic medical records in support of program accountability and outcomes. · Assist volunteer physicians and physician extenders as may be necessary (e.g., assistance in patient exams or procedures). · Utilize appropriate resources (Prescription Health Plan or other local pharmacies) to assist patients in obtaining medications at the lowest cost. · Assists in identifying patients needing follow-up appointments with in-house clinic physician specialists, support groups, rehabilitation (e.g., physical therapy and chiropractic medicine), or other outside referral sources. · Orders routine medical testing as indicated. Assists in the review of daily lab and radiology results reporting to ensure appropriate patient disposition. · Serve as a resource for clinical volunteers and staff. · Understand requirements for bio-hazard waste removal and assist in Clinic compliance efforts. · Support and promote activities related to health maintenance and illness prevention with patients, their families, and community at large. Educate patients regarding diet and medication instructions. Support and encourage patients regarding self-management of their disease – including but not limited to monitoring, testing, and initiating better lifestyle modifications. · Actively contribute to a positive, caring, and supportive environment for patients and others. · Participate in clinical team quality of care meetings. · Assists Health Center Director and Chief Medical Officer as needed to prepare/support quality review meetings and follow-up. Agency-wide Responsibilities · Maintains documentation and records in compliance with policies and procedures · Maintains confidentiality · Supports the St. Petersburg Free Clinic’s commitment to diversity and inclusion · Adheres to agency policies and procedures and all Federal and State regulations and local ordinances Required Skills & Abilities · Strong relationship-building skills with both internal stakeholders · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills · Capability to prioritize inter- and cross-departmental collaboration · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software · Proficient in use of EHR, familiarity with eClinicalWorks preferred · Capability to use a broad range of technology · Commitment to and modeling of St. Petersburg Free Clinic mission and values · Database experience or knowledge preferable. · Excellent organizational skills. · Ability to meet deadlines. Education & Experience: · Adult medicine ARNP licensed in the state of Florida, with specialization in primary care, family medicine or internal medicine. · Diabetology management experience preferred. · Understands complexities of patients who are medically underserved and is committed to a team approach in meeting patient needs. · Must have 3 years of clinical practice experience. · Florida License required. · Bilingual Spanish & English preferred. Physical Requirements · Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer · Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
