Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (0.6wte) Advanced Musculoskeletal Practitioner to join the Community Musculoskeletal (MSK) team in Ealing. The service is led by a Consultant Physiotherapist and is supported by a Consultant Neurosurgeon, as well as an administrative and secretarial team. The team is also supported by a first contact practitioner team to provide a range of areas for clinical experience and development.
The successful applicant will have extensive neuro-musculoskeletal outpatient experience in addition to experience of orthopaedics and rheumatology or pain management (previous experience as an Advanced Practitioner is an advantage but is not essential).
The MSK service in Ealing is well established and provides a high level of training, clinical supervision and support. There are also opportunities to take part in a range of innovative service orientated or clinical projects whilst you develop your clinical skills
The post will be based within Acton and Clayponds Hospital and may incorporate Agile working where necessary.
The Musculoskeletal Extended Scope Practitioner / Clinical Specialist is responsible for assessment, treatment and when clinically appropriate the onward referral of patients referred to primary care interface clinics.
As a senior member of the musculoskeletal team, you will provide support to the Consultant Physiotherapist/MSk Lead and the Physiotherapy Team Lead in the day-to-day running of services and in the evolution of musculoskeletal services within the Trust.
The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.
CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust) has almost 7,000 staff providing integrated healthcare to a third of London’s population, Milton Keynes and areas beyond. We involve service users, carers, the public, staff and partner organisations in the way that we are run.
Our catchment area spans diverse communities, with over 100 first languages spoken. It contains areas of great affluence as well as areas of much deprivation. We are committed to providing services that meet the needs of the people who use them, and we actively encourage involvement from local people who can help make a difference. We’re proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME and people with disabilities to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.
We are recognised locally, nationally and internationally for providing high quality, innovative healthcare. We aim to employ only the best people, and our experts are frequently called upon to contribute to national health strategy and policy, and many models of our care have been adapted for use in other countries.
We offer a generous relocation package (subject to eligibility assessment) and flexible working options, including bank assignments for most roles. See attached Staff Reward and Wellbeing Handbook detailing our benefits, discounts and wellbeing initiatives for staff.
Become part of our team. We care for you as much as you care for others.
To work as an autonomous practitioner, to triage (face to face or digital) orthopaedic referrals from GP’s, which would traditionally have been seen by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, to exclude serious pathology and need for immediate surgery. To form a diagnosis and treatment plan, and offer immediate explanation to the patient/carer. This may include receiving and providing highly complex and sensitive information to patients who may have barriers to understanding. This will include referral for advanced diagnostics such as blood tests and MRI.
To be responsible for the onward referral of patients referred to the community musculoskeletal clinics to other primary care musculoskeletal services, the acute sector and other partner organisations as is clinically appropriate.
To use highly developed clinical reasoning and evidence based knowledge to draw up an appropriate management plan, from a range of options, in conjunction with the patient and implement any appropriate specialist physiotherapy treatment, either as a follow-up with self or referral on to the physiotherapy, orthopaedic and /or rheumatology services as required.
To participate in the assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to the Community Specialist Musculoskeletal and Physiotherapy services.
To provide clinical leadership and a source of clinical expertise. To be available for professional advice as required at outpatients clinics.
To use excellent prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service.
To assist the Consultant Physiotherapist/MSk Lead to monitor and evaluate the level and quality of services provided.
To initiate and participate in any restructuring and change as may be required.
To assist in the process of ensuring that any new services complement existing services within acute and primary care settings
