Wyong ED is looking for Stage 3 or 4 Advanced Emergency Medicine trainees with a passion for POCUS to join our team for Ultrasound Special Skills Placement positions available in 2026.
The Trainees will be working 0.5 FTE clinically in the Wyong Emergency Department and 0.5 FTE in the Ultrasound Special Skills Placement for a 6 months duration, with 2 positions available each year (one first half, one second half). This position will provide significant exposure to POCUS across all major modalities as recommended by ACEM.

Successfully appointed Trainees will have access to:

  • Opportunities to gain significant experience and accreditation across all core Emergency Medicine POCUS examinations (eFAST, AAA, FELS, Lung, and Procedural)
  • Exposure to specialised areas of areas of ultrasound (eg. Biliary, Renal, DVT, Early Pregnancy and others) throughout the placement
  • Formal accreditation of POCUS examinations through CCPU certification if desired – the term is now an accredited CCPU unit course provider with ASUM
  • Protected scanning time within the Emergency Department to develop ultrasound scanning proficiency and complete logbooks for accreditation and/or CCPU certification – there is absolute separation between Ultrasound and ED clinical shifts
  • Close clinical supervision, teaching, and support from a FACEM group with extensive ultrasound experience, including FACEMs with CCPU accreditation
  • Valuable experience in ultrasound from medical sonographers
  • Teaching opportunities at local Ultrasound workshops
