Description

Employment Type: Temporary Various
Remuneration: $110,986 - $139,187
Hours Per Week: 38
Requisition ID: CAM26454 - Central Coast Local Health District - Wyong - Emergency Medicine - Advanced Trainee (0.50FTE AT & 0.50FTE Education)
Emergency Medicine Training:
We here at Central Coast LHD wish to extend a very warm welcome to any prospective eligible applicants for the Wyong Medical Education special skills placement. Those already working in the district will know that it is a highly popular term with excellent trainee-satisfaction. For external applicants, below is a brief synopsis of the term structure, eligibility and curriculum contents.
This term is undertaken as an ACEM accredited Special Skills Term at 0.5 FTE paired with 0.5 FTE in Emergency Medicine. Both fractions are undertaken entirely at Wyong Public Hospital Emergency Department. The term can be undertaken as either a six or twelve month placement. Currently there is capacity for one trainee on the term. Consequently the term offers a 1:1 supervision by the primary supervisor. The trainee ought to be in their final stage of the FACEM training program, TS3.
The trainee will receive teaching in medical educational theory through a curriculum of modules that are delivered face-to-face and involve pre-reading, peer discussion and reflective practice. The trainee will gain experience in clinical teaching and supervision through a diverse range of opportunities, delivering teaching to medical students, JMOs, Registrars and allied health staff. This will be in a great variety of settings, ranging from the bedside to the lecture theatre and SIM lab.
Aside from attendance, the trainee will be required to undertake an educational project (one that involves the original authorship and execution of a training resource that is high-caliber, multimodal and of value to the department) and to write a reflective portfolio (in any medium, one that chronicles the trainee’s learning and experiential journey during the term),
The successful applicant will have a roster that is primarily written centred on the SSP, with clinical ED shifts adapted around these. The trainee will have a dedicated private desk in the Staff Specialist office space.
Any enquiries can be directed to the term’s primary supervisor by email to Deepash.bhavsar@health.nsw.gov.au
The Central Coast is part of the Emergency Medicine Network 2 Training Program. Gosford & Wyong Emergency Departments are educationally networked for training with ACEM and offer a comprehensive education programme contributing to Primary exam preparation & Fellowship preparation. All trainees (including Unaccredited) have access to paid rostered non-clinical time. CCLHD Emergency Trainees have achieved excellent results in both Primary and Fellowship exams, with a very high pass rate and a number of medal winners for top mark. Both Gosford and Wyong Emergency Departments are ACEM accredited for 36 months training time (including stage 4).
CCLHD offers access to regular simulation training and paid, rostered, weekly education sessions for both ACEM and Unaccredited Trainees. Education sessions include regular sessions in PEM, Radiology, SIM and Ultrasound. Advanced Trainees can rotate to dedicated positions in ICU, Anaesthetics, and Medical Education within CCLHD and to tertiary Paediatrics, Trauma, and Retrieval through external secondments. Career opportunities may be available for Trainees progressing through training towards Consultant level.
The NSW Central Coast is located only 1 hour north of Sydney CBD. Career opportunities are available for JMOs wishing to progress a career in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care Medicine from SRMO to Consultant level. You will enjoy the benefits of a relaxed coastal lifestyle paired with a rewarding career supporting a rapid growing population that is expected to grow to 450,000 before 2030.
Central Coast Emergency Medicine:
Gosford and Wyong Emergency Departments are busy mixed departments with a wide variety of presentations, providing excellent exposure to trauma, Paediatrics (25% of presentations), Medicine, and Surgery. Both are well supported by passionate Emergency Physicians who are committed to your development and wellbeing.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.
