Responsibilities

To provide effective clinical management of patients with Sexually Transmissible Infections, HIV, and other sexual
health needs, including provision of screening and biomedical prevention strategies, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes the provision of professional advice and consultancy to outside agencies seeking information on STI/HIV infections. The Advanced Trainee’s role includes participation in training program, peer education, clinical audits and research.
The Advanced Trainee is expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of, and at the discretion of the attending Sexual Health Physician.
This is a position recognised by the Australasia Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM, RACP) for training in sexual health medicine, and other Colleges (e.g RACP, RACGP, RACOG) by negotiation.
