Job Summary: The Advancement and Relationship Manager is a trusted, grassroots-minded professional with a deep commitment to racial and economic justice, who can blend strategic fundraising with equity-centered community engagement. This person will lead the fund development and community engagement strategies that sustain and grow ABCLT’s impact. This position is based in Asheville, NC with some evenings and weekends as required to attend meetings and events.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three or more years of successful experience in fundraising, donor relations, nonprofit advancement, or a related field.
  • Self-motivated individual with the drive to keep going even in the face of set-backs.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret, evaluate, and analyze facts and information.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including storytelling and donor engagement.
  • History of working in a collaborative environment and building relationships in the community.
  • Proven track record of project, program, event, and/or team management.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Passion for housing justice, community-led development, and racial equity.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Asheville’s history around urban renewal.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the public and/or non-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing programs and/or organizations.
  • Familiarity with donor databases and communications tools.
  • Experience working with start-up and/or grassroots organizations.
  • High degree of adaptability and flexibility.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Full-time at 32 hours per week

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Development (60%)

  • Design and implement an annual fundraising plan, including individual giving, major donors, grants, and events.
  • Cultivate, steward, and expand a portfolio of donors and supporters.
  • Support donor database management and ensure timely acknowledgement of gifts.
  • Support submission of grant proposals and reports.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board on fundraising strategy.

Event Management & Member Engagement (20%)

  • Refine and manage the organization’s membership program.
  • Plan and execute events that strengthen community ties and raise visibility, including donor gatherings, community celebrations, and educational forums.
  • Secure sponsorships with partners who align with our mission and values.
  • Represent ABCLT at community events, networking functions, and other public forums to amplify the organization’s mission and expand its network of supporters.

Communications & Storytelling (20%)

  • Develop compelling content for newsletters, appeals, reports, and social media.
  • Highlight resident voices and community impact through ethical storytelling practices.
  • Ensure consistent and values-aligned messaging across platforms.
