Description
Online dosimetry is an innovative approach aimed at improving radiation dose assessment for occupationally exposed workers. Traditional methods rely on dosimeters, which face limitations in complex radiation fields. Online dosimetry seeks to overcome these challenges by integrating 3D motion tracking systems with dose calculations for real-time dose assessment.     Online dosimetry offers several advantages over conventional dosimetry. It allows direct effective dose assessment, providing more accurate radiation detriment evaluation. Incorporation of computational phantoms tailored to individual characteristics can further enhance the precision and enable personalized dosimetry. Furthermore, AI-driven visualizations of radiation exposure could improve training and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) strategies, enhancing radiation safety. The goal of this project is to to make computational methods ready for official dosimetry, specifically for neutron, high energy and pulsed fields. Despite its potential, practical implementation remains challenging. There is a need for an improved and advanced mapping of the dose rates, inclusion of quality control and better staff tracking and identification. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in all these aspects is also included in this proposal. This project involves an industrial partner. This is crucial for translating research into practical applications. It facilitates large-scale testing, and supports transition from theoretical frameworks to commercially viable solutions. An industrial partner can also drive regulatory compliance, standardization, and market adoption, ultimately ensuring that online dosimetry becomes a reliable and widely implemented radiation protection tool.
