GENERAL PURPOSE   Under the direction of the AdventurePlex Supervisor, assists with the implementation of AdventurePlex programs and services.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS   The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment.   All staff will be asked to perform the following duties: 1. Demonstrates knowledge of AdventurePlex products and services, including drop-in programs, events (Parent Night Out, birthday parties), classes, facility rentals, outdoor programs (Ropes Course and Rock Wall), and seasonal Adventure Camps.  2. Promotes safety throughout the facility by keeping all areas of AdventurePlex neat and tidy, cleaning up spills or other hazards, notifying a supervisor of a safety concern that requires immediate attention, etc. 3. Assist in other areas of facility during shift when needed.  4. Takes work direction from senior staff members. 5. Exhibits clear understanding of the history, mission, and vision and serves as an ambassador of Beach Cities Health District and AdventurePlex.  6. Exemplifies BCHD’s core values of compassion, integrity, accountability, and excellence in every interaction with AdventurePlex members and the public. 7. May be asked to represent AdventurePlex at community events. 8. Special projects as assigned.       BASIC SERVICES                                  Begins employment and serves in role as the following:   Adventure Leader 1. Staffs and monitors Adventure Room to ensure that participant’s activities are conducted in a safe manner. 2. Conducts structured activity of the day for children to engage and participate in. 3. Assists with general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and similar duties as needed. 4. Performs opening duties and closing duties to prepare facility for next day activity.    Toddler Town Attendant 1. Staffs and monitors Toddler Town to ensure that participant’s activities are conducted in a safe manner.   2. Assists with general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and similar duties as needed.                    Meets performance standards as Adventure Leader and takes part in training program and passes competency tests to serve in both the following roles:   Parent Night Out and Seasonal Camps (e.g., Veterans Day Camp, Winter Camp) Staff: 1. Leads and engages in age-specific programs, activities, arts and crafts, games and recreational activities outlined in the schedule. 2. Engages in the setup and break down of camp activities, including preparation and cleanup for crafts, games and activities. 3. Shows interest and excitement in scheduled activities and seeks ways to include all campers in every activity. 4. Supervises participants throughout the facility to ensure activities are conducted in a safe manner (e.g., playing in the Adventure Room, climbing the rock wall). 5. Alerts supervisor or Manager on Duty of problems involving campers and programs and suggests potential solutions.   SPECIALTY SERVICES                                     Meets performance standards for Basic Services job roles and takes part in training program and passes competency tests to serve in one or both the following roles:   Events Staff 1. Prepares birthday party room organizing tables, etc. and cleans up room after party has ended. 2. Leads birthday party by greeting party guests, hosting event and activities, maintaining control of party room at all times, and coordinating final payment after event has ended.    3. Acts as a liaison for party guests and supervises children with the party at all times to ensure guest safety. 4. Understands Events booking process as well as all events policies and procedures with ability to enforce policies and procedures with guests.   Outdoors Staff 1. Completes Outdoors checklists to help maintain a safe and clean environment. 2. Facilitates Outdoors activities such as taking individuals or groups through the ropes course or teaching basic climbing and assisting individuals up the rock wall. 3. Provides motivation and encouragement to participants and offers positive feedback throughout the entire experience. 4. Works with staff to develop and execute program plans for teambuilding workshops or large groups.    Miscellaneous 14. Performs assigned training, duties, and work schedule as a disaster service worker on behalf of BCHD. 15. Exhibits clear understanding of the history, mission, and vision and serves as an ambassador of Beach Cities Health District. 16. Exemplifies BCHD’s core values of compassion, integrity, accountability, and excellence in every interaction with staff, volunteers and members and the public. 17. Meets and exceeds deadlines efficiently.       QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES   Any combination equivalent to experience, education, and training that would provide the required knowledge; skills and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:   EDUCATION/TRAINING:   Currently pursuing or completed a High School Diploma or equivalent.    EXPERIENCE:   Minimum of six months prior work (or volunteer) experience with children.    KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of recreational programs, day camp activities, and arts and crafts. General knowledge of BCHD services and knowledge of appropriate safety precautions. Must possess proficiency in Microsoft programs and ability to learn other software programs used at facility (point of sale).   ABILITIES/SKILLS: Demonstrates accountability and good judgment. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, management, campers, parents and others during the course of work.  Bilingual Spanish-English skills are highly desirable. Position may require evening and weekend work coverage.                                         SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:   Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.   Applicants under the age of 18 must provide a California Work Permit.  First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) methods; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.  Must be able to successfully pass background check, tuberculosis test and drug screen.       PHYSICAL STANDARDS   Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.     PHYSICAL AND SENSORY ELEMENTS:   The sensory demands of the job typically require hearing, talking and seeing. The position requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The job involves work requiring frequent standing and walking between play and program areas to monitor the use of the facilities. Wrist flexing and finger dexterity are needed for some play activities and to operate standard office equipment.  Employees in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel during play and arts and crafts activities, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed or lock and unlock cabinets and doors to retrieve supplies and play items.  Employees in this classification occasionally lift and carry recreational equipment, games, arts supplies and records that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.   Employees in this classification climb ladders to open and close the rock wall.   ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:   Employees work in outdoors and indoors environments, with exposure to variable temperature and weather conditions and moderate to loud noise during indoor and outdoor play, including up to 95 decibels level.
