Position Summary Williamsburg Adventures (WAD) Guides are outdoor and leadership enthusiasts who support an Adventure Lead in facilitating dynamic, hands-on Adventure courses. Guides play a key role in mentoring students and helping create meaningful, engaging experiences in both outdoor and leadership settings. Students in the Outdoor Adventures course earn PE credit while participating in activities such as rock climbing, hiking, skiing, survival skills, first aid training, outdoor games, and more. Students also earn elective leadership credit through experiences such as museum visits, college tours, field trips, service projects, simulations, and other applied leadership activities designed to build confidence, character, and real-world skills. Essential Duties 1. Support Transformational Learning Experiences Assist the Adventure Lead in facilitating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences aligned with the Williamsburg Adventures model Actively participate in and help guide 1:1 conversations, group discussions, and reflection before, during, and after activities Attend all required online and in-person trainings (schedule provided prior to the school year) Additional remote hours may be available for grading assistance, as needed 2. Inspire, Challenge & Engage Students Partner with the Adventure Lead during 10 predetermined Adventure Fridays per semester Support activities typically held between 9:00 AM–3:00 PM (2–5 hours per event) at various locations Guide students through activities, lead small group discussions, assist with games, take attendance, and provide basic first aid when needed Arrive 30 minutes prior to each adventure and assist with setup, cleanup, and equipment care 3. Support Student Safety Assist the Adventure Lead in maintaining student safety from drop-off to pick-up Follow the direction of the Adventure Lead during all activities Help supervise large groups of students and ensure policies and safety procedures are followed Report directly to the Adventure Lead in the assigned geographic area 4. Represent Williamsburg Learning with Excellence Serve as a positive role model and foster trust with students and families Promote a culture of belonging, teamwork, and community at each adventure Represent Williamsburg Learning professionally during all activities and trips Non-Essential Duties Please note that this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of the activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years old and one full year post–high school Outdoor and/or leadership experience preferred Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start) Valid and current driver’s license Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills Ability to pass a background check Ability to provide transformational mentoring to youth Willingness to lead with authenticity, vulnerability, and integrity Energy and enthusiasm for outdoor experiences and personal growth Comfort using technology platforms including SIS, Canvas, Zoom, Remind, and Google Suite (training provided) Position Structure & Time Commitment 10 predetermined Adventure Fridays per semester Most adventures are 2–5 hours in length and occur primarily on Fridays Typical weekly commitment is under 10 hours during adventure weeks Required short trainings each semester (held on predetermined Fridays) are paid Additional seasonal duties may offer opportunities for increased hours Mileage reimbursement provided for travel to and from adventure locations from your home address Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform physical activities, including walking, hiking, running, standing for extended periods, lifting, and bending Ability to maintain continuous visual supervision of students Ability to hear and respond to students in active indoor and outdoor environment Benefits 401(k) Retirement and Paid Time Off.
