Description

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position. Under the special measures provisions outlined in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic, s.12), only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We welcome applications from professionals who model the Victorian public sector values
We’re seeking a passionate and collaborative individual who brings a deep understanding of the issues impacting First Nations communities, particularly in relation to employment and career progression. You’ll have strong project delivery skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, government departments, and colleagues across the Commission. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build strong relationships, share knowledge, and contribute to a values-driven and culturally informed team environment. Experience working with First Nations communities and organisations is highly regarded, as is a relevant qualification in a related field.

WHO WE ARE

The Victorian Public Sector Commission plays a key role in stewardship of the public sector. It works to strengthen the efficiency, effectiveness and capability of the public sector and maintain, and advocate for, public sector professionalism and integrity. Your contribution will help shape and lead strategic government directions across Victoria.

Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander professional to join the Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) in a vital advisory role that supports First Nations workforce development. As part of the First Peoples Workforce and Cultural Capability branch, you will contribute to the delivery of Barring Djinang - the Victorian public sector’s First Peoples’ Workforce Development Strategy - and provide cultural expertise to shape broader Commission strategies. You’ll play a key part in advancing self-determination, truth-telling, Treaty processes, and improved outcomes for First Nations communities within the public sector.
In this role, you’ll work closely with First Nations stakeholders, public sector departments, agencies and entities, and VPSC leadership to drive culturally informed employment initiatives and promote inclusive, respectful workplace practices. You’ll also prepare high-level briefings, support collaborative project delivery, and ensure cultural insight informs policy and practice across the sector. This role is ideal for someone with strong project management and communication skills, and a deep understanding of the issues affecting First Nations communities- particularly in the employment and career development space. Join a small, passionate team that is committed to creating lasting impact for First Peoples across Victoria.
