Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

About the Role: Undertake field inspections, safety audits, incident investigations, and hazard identification to inform operational leadership decision-making. Support operational and functional leaders to effectively identify and manage safety risks to eliminate fatalities, injuries, and illnesses.

CAPABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Problem-solving ability and practical judgment to overcome problems.
  • Knowledge of globally recognized health& safety systems, standards, and processes.
  • Competent proficiency in implementing health& safety systems and standards.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of people across disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor field inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Deliver hands-on safety coaching and training to site personnel, demonstrating standard methodology and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Execute safety protocols and procedures tailored to on-site conditions, ensuring all staff are trained and compliant with these guidelines.
  • Collaborate in and deliver safety programs such as fatality management and incident management, applying field observations and feedback into program development.
  • Support execution of site-based H plans.
  • Support and influence site/project frontline leaders in the safe execution of work and engaging the workforce to improve H
  • Coordinate OHS Representative or equivalent programs.
  • Operationalize Safety management systems e.g., change management.
  • Support LOD1 assurance programs for H standards and processes.
