THE REQUIREMENTS
THE ROLE
The Advisor, Indigenous engagement will play a critical role in fostering positive, respectful, and productive relationships with Indigenous communities in Québec or Ontario, contributing to the successful implementation of a wide range of community engagement initiatives. The role involves providing expert leadership, project management, and strategic advice on various aspects of Indigenous relations, including impact assessments, consultations, socio-economic development, and capacity-building. This position is key to ensuring that the Project’s engagement activities are aligned with both Indigenous cultural protocols and regulatory consultation requirements. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful, positive change for Indigenous communities while supporting the success of a significant project.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong, respectful, and collaborative relationships with Indigenous communities. Work closely with community leaders to identify shared goals and ensure transparent and open communication channels.
Indigenous Community Engagement: Lead and manage community engagement projects, including consultations, fieldwork, and collaboration-focused activities with Indigenous communities in Québec or Ontario. Ensure that these activities align with project objectives and the community’s needs and expectations.
Strategy Implementation & Leadership: Support the development and execution of the Indigenous community engagement strategy in collaboration with internal teams. Ensure success in communications and interactions with Indigenous communities, fostering trust and openness.
Partnership & Issue Management: Assist in the development of partnership strategies and issue management plans. Provide strategic recommendations to senior management, ensuring long-term, positive relationships with Indigenous communities.
Socio-Economic Development & Capacity-Building: Identify opportunities for socio-economic development initiatives, including capacity-building programs, to benefit Indigenous communities impacted by the Project.
Reporting & Strategic Advice: Provide ongoing updates and reports on Indigenous relations activities, drafting briefing notes, meeting minutes, and other relevant documents. Present findings to the Indigenous Engagement Manager and senior management to support decision-making and strategy development.
Logistics & Engagement Activities: Manage logistics for formal and informal engagement activities, such as workshops, information sessions, open houses, and consultations. Ensure all engagements are documented thoroughly for future reference during impact analysis.
Collaboration with Partners & Consultants: Work closely with private development partners and consultants to ensure compliance with consultation requirements, manage risks, and help meet project obligations under the Project Development and Project Agreement.
Cultural Protocol & Risk Management: Guide internal teams on Indigenous cultural protocols and policies, ensuring colleagues engage with Indigenous communities respectfully and adhere to regulatory consultation requirements.
