Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our inclusive and diverse HSEC team here at Rio Tinto. We’re seeking a passionate Advisor Indigenous Support to provide direct support to Indigenous employees, advice to line leaders, and build/support Cultural awareness, knowledge and capability across the business.

Reporting to the Manager HSEC you will be responsible for the below duties :

  • Support Manager HSEC to influence a culturally safe workplace
  • Support the change-management process, including contributing to development of work roles/practices, performance rituals/cadences and other opportunities for simplification to ensure aligned and functional indigenous support capability results
  • Engage and Support Asset-based Indigenous workforce to build effective relationships with their leaders, strengthen communication techniques and undertake the role of support person, as required
  • Provide Indigenous support and guidance (Social, wellbeing, business processes, HR) to influence a culturally safe workplace and increase retention of Indigenous workforce
  • Build Indigenous employees’ awareness and understanding of RTIO’s policies, procedures and performance expectations, as support systems and career development opportunities
  • Supporting the Asset-based Leadership team
  • Support and promote RTIO’s Indigenous Employment Strategy at site level and support and collaborate with IEDP team projects and initiatives on indigenous support as required.
  • Proactive planning and engagement with Indigenous employees to identify engagement risks early and establish proactive response plans in conjunction with Asset leaders
  • Support Indigenous employees’ and their leaders with completion and use of talent tools, particularly for Indigenous Talent Review (ITR) candidates and Champions
  • Maintain a database on engagement, case management and produce reports as required, including summative quarterly reports identifying themes and/or trends
  • Build strong relationships with key operational and functional partners
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices and inter-site collaboration.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A strong commitment to safety—for yourself, your team, and your workplace

  • Understanding of HR policies and process
  • Experience in supporting program delivery, reporting and building stakeholder relations
  • Background of working in either mining or similar related industry
  • Experience and understanding of the issues that may impact on Indigenous people/groups in the workplace
  • Experience working in diverse teams, and able to work autonomously
