About Ontario Health: The Health Force Division of Ontario Health drives the advancement of health human resources (HHR) initiatives with a focus on building and optimizing health workforce capacity in critical health system areas. We support priority populations through equitable access to HHR, build provincial HHR data repositories, maximize and optimize health professional recruitment supports, and provide crisis response/system stabilization solutions to HHR challenges.
Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Health Workforce Integration, the Specialist, Talent Acquisition is accountable for providing programs and services to internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) to help them integrate into the health care system. The primary goal is to increase Ontario’s health workforce capacity in priority areas. The incumbent plays a critical role in helping IEHPs become trained, licensed, and employed in their profession or an alternative healthcare career. The incumbent also identifies and implements opportunities to improve the health system’s ability to rapidly and effectively integrate IEHPs into the workforce by establishing partnerships with training programs, regulatory bodies, and settlement agencies.
Here is what you will be doing:
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to IEHPs regarding the registration and licensing process for their successful integration into Ontario’s healthcare system.
- Facilitate referrals to regulatory bodies, assessment agencies, language, and other settlement service providers to support workforce integration.
- Identify opportunities and work with educational institutions and regulatory bodies to partner on training programs to support more rapid and effective integration of IEHPs into Ontario’s workforce.
- Continuously develop a strong pipeline of IEHPs for integration into the healthcare system, including outreach to relevant partnership agencies and developing programming to meet the needs of both healthcare employers and the IEHP workforce.
- Act as a subject matter expert on health professional licensing, training, career pathways, and the health workforce job market.
- Facilitate large group sessions/webinars on topics related to licensure, training, integration into the Ontario health care system, and alternative careers.
- Establish relationships with community service agencies and potential employers (e.g., hospitals, health care facilities) to identify placements and build program awareness and create a network of support for IEHPs.
- Participate in advisory committees (e.g., bridging programs, professional associations, regulatory colleges) to share front-line knowledge (e.g., emerging trends, client needs, awareness of new legislation or programs) that can be used by committees to guide decision-making related to the IEHP workforce.
- Provide input to management about potential impacts of proposed policy, regulation, and/or program changes affecting IEHPs.
- Attend medical/health conferences, career job fairs, and symposiums to promote programs and services to stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in healthcare, with a focus on internationally educated health professionals.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of legislation, processes, and guidelines governing registration/licensing of health regulated occupations and roles, regulatory requirements, service delivery frameworks for registration/licensure with regulatory bodies/organizations.
- Knowledge of community and government resources and services available to assist IEHPs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing IEHPs and new immigrants.
- Knowledge of the health workforce job market, including high-need segments of the health workforce.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess client information and requirements.
- Research, analytical, and program planning skills to develop solutions to meet the needs of IEHPs.
- Strong interpersonal, judgment, communication, and stakeholder relations skills to build collaborative and trusting relationships with IEHP clients, community settlement agencies, etc.
- Self-directed and takes initiative to work well independently and in a team.
- Cultural sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact to show respect and understand diverse needs and backgrounds of various client groups and adapt services to meet their unique needs.
- Time management and organizational skills to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and changing environment as a collaborative team player.
- Public speaking and facilitation skills to facilitate training and information sessions.
- Knowledge of office/project administration software and database information technologies.
