Description CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is looking for an Advocate Specialist in the ER of RWJ. The Advocate Specialist works in the mental health crisis unit on the grounds of the assigned hospital and is responsible for engaging and providing peer support and advocacy to individuals waiting for a psychiatric evaluation. The Advocate Specialist is trained in wellness and recovery and in hospital procedures, serving to provide transparent feedback and information to people in the Emergency Department. 15 hours per week | Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 2pm - 7pm | NJESL Eligible Hourly Rate: $17.00 Requirements REQUIRED: MUST CLEAR HOSPITAL PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING PRIOR TO ONBOARDING. High School Diploma or GED. Wellness and Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training is preferred. Experience providing peer support and a commitment to helping others.. Excellent communication, assessment, and interpersonal skills. Empathetic with good listening skills, patient and emotionally resilient. Willingness to disclose and speak openingly about current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services. Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) Bilingual skills are preferred/ a plus. Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record. Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.
Responsibilities
The Advocate Specialist engages with and provides peer support and advocacy to individuals awaiting psychiatric evaluation within the mental health crisis unit at the hospital's ER. This role involves serving as a source of transparent feedback and information regarding hospital procedures to those in the Emergency Department.
