Description Under limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required. Specific to the Position Position 1 (Bureau of Stationary Sources): Under limited supervision, review permit applications and complete special projects. Ensure that assigned air permit applications are reviewed in a timely manner in accordance with state and federal rules/regulations, and consistent with DEP's policies/procedures, including the EJ Rule process. Perform engineering calculations and prepare accurate technical reports including findings, conclusions and recommendations. Ensure that any special projects and other assignments given are completed in an accurate and timely manner, including investigations into alternative air control pollution measures. Participate in DEP held public hearings and attend EJ public meetings. Position 2 (Bureau of Release Prevention): Reviews initial (new facility) DPCC and DCR Plans, Plan amendments, and Plan renewals; reviews engineering plans and maps; performs professional engineering work for hazardous material spill prevention management; performs field visits, audits and inspections to review plans for approval, to determine regulatory compliance or applicability, and to investigate discharges; issues and tracks enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the DPHS rules. Requirements EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment. NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work. NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience. NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.
