Job Details Job Location: Seattle Engineering Center - SEC - Seattle, WA 98108 AeroTECs Engineering Services Department supports and provides comprehensive, full-service aerospace engineering services to customers in aircraft design, test and certification. The Engineering Services Department is responsible for providing engineering consulting services related to aircraft design, performance, similarity analysis, reviewing and supporting certification activities, determining test requirements, and planning and documenting testing to meet customer needs. These services vary, depending on the customer needs and objectives. The Engineering Services Department provides areas of expertise such as Flight Sciences, Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Powerplant & FIFA, Air Systems, Cabin Safety, Structures, Flight Control, and System Safety Engineering. The Aerospace Engineer - Systems Safety III is a role responsible for supporting the focal systems engineer in design, development, and directly responsible for the safety assessments of aircrafts, systems and/or components. This position requires a mastery of the first principles of designing for safety, allowing the engineer to apply the appropriate level of rigor to both certified civil aircraft programs and non-certified rapid prototyping projects. The role requires significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance. Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Safety Analysis & Requirements Engineering Generate and manage safety requirements, at appropriate levels, to ensure design integrity. Create validation and verification (V&V) plans specifically for safety requirements. Assess compliance of systems, components, and installations against safety requirements. Conduct comprehensive safety analyses in accordance with SAE ARP4761A, including: Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA/SFHA). Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) and Summary (FMES). Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSA) and System Safety Assessments (SSA), including Fault Tree Analyses (FTA) at the unit, system, and aircraft levels. Common Cause Analysis (CCA) including Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), and Common Mode Analysis (CMA). Understand the interdependencies between safety artifacts and other engineering activities (e.g., requirements, design, and testing) within the product development lifecycle. Communicate the system needs to internal and external consumers of the design Knowledge of the system engineering development process, including requirements development and management per SAE ARP4754B. Experience working in safety-specific tools such as CAFTA or RELEX, as well as Microsoft Office (Intermediate Excel required). Certification & Compliance Build safety artifacts required to show compliance for certification of civil aircraft under 14 CFR Parts 23, 25, 27, and/or 29. Review and support development and execute Certification Plans. Coordinate with certification authorities to seek clarification on requirements. Review certification guidance material (e.g., Advisory Circulars) and incorporate necessary guidance into safety strategies. Participate in Systems Design Reviews to ensure safety is integrated from conceptual design through final integration. Analyze mechanical or system failures to determine root cause and develop corrective actions based on safety principles. Customer Interaction & Supplier Technical Oversight Coordinate with customers and suppliers to review technical data, safety processes, and design compliance. Communicate system safety needs and constraints to both internal and external design consumers. Compare design solutions specifically through the lens of safety and risk mitigation. Complete special projects and tasks assigned by Group Lead Qualifications Level Requirements (Minimum): Education Four (4) year degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems). Other Engineering fields may be considered. Experience Five (5+) years of Aerospace Engineering experience. Proven experience across much of the product development lifecycle. Experience in Mechanical Systems, Avionics, Flight Control Systems, Landing Gear, Hydraulics, or similar complex aircraft systems Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear.
